The first of 600 U.S.-market 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition models is up for grabs at auction, and it still smells factory fresh with just 16 miles on the clock.
The 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition bids adieu to the tenth-generation nameplate ahead of the Civic's redesign for the 2022 model year. Designed with gobs of front-wheeling performance in mind, this boost-fed sport compact saw extensive development time at the Nurburgring, and brings all the upgrades one would expect.
For starters, the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition was lightened, with 50 pounds removed via the deletion of sound deadening and various smaller components (rear wiper, rear cargo cover, etc.). This special Civic also rolls on lighter running gear, with 20-inch BBS wheels reducing unsprung weight by 4.5 pounds per corner, and super-soft 245/30R20 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires reducing unsprung weight by 1 pound per corner.
Further updates include new tuning for the chassis roll stiffness and steering. The powerplant is the familiar turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder K20C1, rated at 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, but thanks to the weight savings and handling improvements, the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition boasts quicker lap times and a more-focused experience behind the wheel.
For all those H-badge lovers out there, this hatch drips with desirability. The hyper-aggressive factory aero kit, Phoenix Yellow paint, and triple-tip exhaust announce its performance intentions with clarity, while the greasy bits underneath have the goods to back the head-turning style.
This particular example, however, ups the desirability several notches. With just 16 miles on the odometer, it's basically brand new, and as the first of 600 examples built for the U.S., it's also highly collectible. Throw in the imminent arrival of the next-gen 2023 Civic Type R and you add some urgency to the situation as well.
