2022 Acura NSX Type S Debuts With 600 Horsepower

The NC1 bids adieu with limited go-faster model.

Parting is such sweet sorrow. The 2022 Acura NSX Type S has debuted at Monterey Car Week, dropping in as the final model year for the second-generation NC1. However, before its exit, the new NSX Type S is offered as the "quickest, most powerful and best handling production NSX" ever made, lapping Suzuka 2-seconds quicker than the preceding 2021 NSX.

Visually speaking, the 2022 Acura NSX Type S rocks revised front and rear styling, highlighted by a GT3-style rear diffuser and enhanced engine cooling. A standard carbon fiber roof is up top, while Type S decals are positioned in the flanks. Paint options now include a new matte hue dubbed Gotham Gray, limited to just 70 units total.

Unique five-spoke wheels finish it off, with wider Pirelli P-Zero rubber adding an extra 0.4 inches in front and 0.8 inches in rear. The Adaptive Damper System suspension was also retuned for even sharper handling.

Mounted behind the cabin is the familiar twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine, once again assisted by three electric motors. However, the Type S ups boost pressure by six percent, while battery capacity was increased 20 percent and battery output was increased 10 percent.

Put it all together, and the 2022 Acura NSX Type S throws down with 600 horsepower and 492 pound-feet of torque, 27 horsepower an 16 pound-feet more than the 2021 model year (573 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque). The nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission was also retuned for quicker shifts.

Expanding the options list is a new Lightweight Package, which cuts curb weight by 57.8 pounds via Carbon Ceramic Brakes, a Carbon Fiber Engine Cover, and Carbon Fiber interior bits.

Final touches include an Alcantara headliner, embroidered Type S logo on the glove box, and NSX logos embossed on the headrests.

Pricing for the 2022 Acura NSX Type S is set at $169,500, while the lightweight package brings the bottom line up to $182,500. Production is limited at 350 units, 300 of which are slated for U.S. shores. Order books are now open.
