The sport compact icon marches on.
The 2022 Honda Civic Si has arrived, framed as the "best-handling and most fun-to-drive" model to ever wear the Civic Si nameplate.
Based on the eleventh-generation model, the 2022 Honda Civic Si presents updated styling with a unique front end, twin oval exhaust pipes, and standard 18-inch wheels. The sport compact is also offered in Blazing Orange Pearl paint for those going for the traffic cone look.
Updates can be found under the hood as well. Originally, the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder L15B7 engine was expected to produce a little more peak power, but instead, that figure is actually down five ponies to 200 horsepower total. That said, Honda claims that the power curve is now broader and more usable than before. Peak torque matches the previous model at 192 pound-feet, but it arrives 300 rpm earlier at 1,800 rpm.
The drivetrain also includes a lightened flywheel for sharper throttle response. A six-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential are both standard, the former of which features the same rev-match system as the Civic Type R.
As for the handling bits, the 2022 Honda Civic Si features updated sport suspension tuning, as well as a wider track and longer wheelbase for added high-speed stability. The brakes are larger than those on the non-Si Civic, measuring in with 12.3-inch rotors in front and 11.1-inch rotors in rear, equating to an extra 1.2 inches of diameter fore and 0.9 inches aft. Standard spec rides on 235/40R18 all-season tires, but customers can equip summer-only performance rubber as an option.
Inside, you'll find the 2022 Honda Civic Si equipped with unique front sport buckets which include embroidered Si logos and red contrast stitching. There's also a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Bose audio system.
Pricing info for the 2022 Honda Civic Si is unavailable, but for reference, the previous model was a bit over the $26,000 mark. Expect the 2022 Honda Civic Si to arrive in dealers this fall.
