Next-gen CTR goes apex hunting in Japan.
Honda fans eager to get an eyeful of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R just got another peek, this time with a fresh teaser video showing the next-generation CTR going flat out at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan.
Although it's nice to see the 2023 Honda Civic Type R in motion, the 80-second video doesn't provide much in terms of new information. The featured vehicle appears to be the same prototype highlighted in a series of teaser images released late last year, with identical red-white-and-black camouflage showing the outline of Civic Type R hatchback models of old.
As covered previously, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R presents new, relatively subdued styling cues, at least by CTR standards. Gone are the flamboyant wings and vents of the FK8 generation, replaced with a more streamlined, simple style.
That said, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R isn't a complete break from tradition, as it still features wider fenders, a GT-style wing, and triple exhaust pipes.
With regard to the greasy bits, the new Civic Type R is likely to arrive with a more-powerful tune for the familiar turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder K20C1 gasoline engine, currently rated at 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, and expected to rise to 315 to 335 horsepower for the next-gen model. All of the ponies will be sent to the front axle by way of a standard six-speed manual transmission.
Providing the bones will be the eleventh-generation Honda Civic platform, while red Brembo brakes, Michelin Pilot 4S tires, and Honda's clever suspension tuning will be on deck to keep it all shiny side up.
A prototype 2023 Honda Civic Type R is on display now at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. A full debut is expected sometime this year, with a starting price around $40,000.
