Full debut next year.
The H-Badge is once again teasing the upcoming 2023 Honda Civic Type R, this time with fresh photos from a test session at the world-famous Suzuka Circuit in Japan.
Honda previously teased the 2023 Civic Type R in October, and the prototype in these new photos is covered in the same red, black, and white camouflage. Look closely, and you'll notice that the camo includes outlines of previous Civic Type R hatchback models.
The new photos also provide further confirmation that the 2023 Honda Civic Type R will feature plus-sized Brembo calipers up front, finished in red, as well as Michelin Pilot 4S tires for the stick. Red upholstery can be seen on the front bucket seats, per tradition.
As revealed in October, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R looks to offer relatively mellow styling compared to the current FK8 generation, ditching the excess wings, vents, and aero doodads in favor of a more cohesive design and simple lines.
That said, the customary widened stance and large rear wing are still present and accounted for, as are triple exhaust pipes.
The current model is rated at 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque thanks to the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder K20C1 gasoline engine. Looking ahead, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R is rumored to make a bit more, although how much more is still up in the air. Additionally, a dual-clutch automatic transmission was originally believed to be a possibility, but now, it's looking more likely that the new CTR will be offered exclusively with a manual transmission, similar to the new Honda Civic Si.
Under the skin, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R will ride atop the eleventh-generation Civic platform.
Back in 2017, the CTR set the Nurburgring lap record for front-wheel drive production cars, but at the moment, it's unclear if the new model will have what it takes to reclaim that title.
