However, exact specs are still forthcoming.
After months of teasers, the all-new 2023 Honda Civic Type R has finally made its official debut, offering up new styling, more power, and several other performance tweaks.
Unfortunately, Honda declined to reveal all the important go-fast specs, but at least we can now see the new CTR in its full, un-camouflaged glory.
Based on the latest eleventh-generation Honda Civic hatchback, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R once again looks to communicate consummate front-wheel drive performance through revised styling that's significantly more streamlined and simplified than the previous Civic Type R. That said, what remains is quite functional, including a sizable rear spoiler, which complements a rather showy triple center-mounted exhaust.
Five exterior colors will be offered, including Historic Championship White (an exclusive hue for the CTR), Rallye Red, Boost Blue, Crystal Black Pearl, and Sonic Grey Pearl. The new Civic Type R also runs on 19-inch wheels as standard, which are downsized by an inch compared to the 20-inchers equipped by the previous model.
Inside, you'll find the traditional red upholstery for the well-bolstered front seats, complete with embroidered Type R logos in the headrests. Digital gauge readouts match with a 9-inch tablet-style screen on the dash, while a red H badge punctuates the steering wheel. Matte silver trim and black rounds it out.
Honda decided to keep a lid on the performance figures, which means official horsepower numbers are currently unavailable. That said, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R is billed as "the most powerful Type R ever," which means it will definitely have more output than the current 306-horsepower CTR (Euro-spec models make 316 horsepower).
Motivation will be sourced from the familiar turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder K20C1 gasoline engine, the same boosted four-banger equipped by the FK8 generation, which will mate with an updated six-speed manual transmission with rev-matching capabilities.
The 2023 Honda Civic Type R will also boast handling and chassis improvements, the specifics of which are yet again unknown. That said, the 2023 CTR is definitely riding on wider 265/30R19 tires, specifically Michelin's Pilot Sport 4S summer rubber.
Pricing info is also unavailable, although the 2023 Honda Civic Type R will likely cost more than the previous model year, which starts just under the $40,000 mark. Look for further details to drop when the 2023 Honda Civic Type R launches this fall.
