7-Sec Honda Civic Blasts Down Track With 17-YO Racer

Father and son team dominate Sport FWD class.

Once considered a flash in the pan peculiarity, front-wheel drive drag racing is as strong as ever, with the next generation now taking the wheel. Proving the point is 17-year-old Kevin Aleman, who dominates in the Sport Front-Wheel-Drive class with this insane 7-second Honda Civic dragster, as seen in the following video.

Aleman got his start in drag racing early, growing up around the sport thanks to his father, the owner and operator of Chapulin Performance. Aleman's father started his son in the 11.50 index class, after which Kevin progressed to an all-motor B-series car. Now, however, Kevin is throwing down in the Sport Front-Wheel-Drive class with his turbocharged Honda Civic, even giving dear 'ole dad a run for his money.

Funny enough, Kevin Aleman holds the record for second-quickest Sport Front-Wheel-Drive class dragster at 7.71 seconds, while his father holds the top spot at 7.69 seconds. At an event last December, Kevin managed a 7.94 right off the trailer, later nabbing a 7.80 at the same event while facing off against his father in the other lane. Just a thousandth of a second separated the two.

Both father and son drive turbocharged Honda Civics, with Kevin's nicknamed "La Violenta," and his father's nicknamed "El Violento." Watching these machines run, it's obvious that the names are more than appropriate.

Aleman's father and Chapulin Performance are responsible for the engine in Kevin's Honda Civic, which includes a B18 short block, Arias pistons, a 4 Piston Racing cylinder head, a Gato Performance manifold, and a 67mm Precision turbocharger pumping out 70 psi of boost.

Engine management is handled by a FuelTech FT550 system tuned by Chupa Tech. Output is estimated around 1,400 horsepower, although the car has never actually seen a dyno.

Check out the Alemans' violent quarter mile runs in the video below, and make sure to keep it on Tuner Fan for more front-wheel drive performance news.
