7-Sec Honda Civic Makes Epic Pass Vs. Challenger Redeye

FWD power!

The war between imports and domestics rages on, and it's only getting faster. Now, we're watching a truly epic battle between a 7-second Honda Civic and built Dodge Challenger Redeye in the following drag racing video.

Once again coming to us from the fine folks at 1320 Video, the setting for this showdown is last month's Import vs. Domestic World Cup Finals at Maryland International Raceway. The man behind the Civic is Jason Marsh, who managed to lay down the first True Street class-legal run in the 7-second range from the hot seat of his 1993 Honda Civic EG hatchback.

The power spec includes a Precision 6785 turbo and 67mm compressor wheel, which breathes into an LS B18 block and B16 head. The engine connects to a PPG dog box transmission fitted with a Competition Clutch. Tuning is handled by Motec electronics.

It's a proven setup, and Marsh makes the most of it by laying down multiple 7-second passes, sitting pretty as the number-one qualifier in the True Street class. However, one of the best battles of the weekend is in Round 2 when the Honda Civic drag racer faces off against a built 2019 Dodge Challenger Redeye.

As the video host points out, these two cars take wildly different approaches to the business of going fast. While the Civic runs power to the front wheels and relies on low weight, the ground-pounding Dodge Challenger sends it to the rear and doubles up on just about everything else - twice the cylinders, twice the turbochargers, and yes, roughly twice the weight as well.

Despite the differences, these two machines are well-matched in the quarter mile, with just a few hundredths of a second between them. Watching this import-versus-domestic battle is a real treat, so stick it out to at least the 5-minute mark to see it go down.
