Audi Hoonitron Is Ken Block's New EV Tire Shredder

No emissions, just smoke.

In case you missed it, serial tire-killer and slide-master extraordinaire Ken Block has left Ford to join ranks with Audi and take part in a series of new all-electric mobility projects. However, even though Audi is moving away from internal combustion, Block's penchant for high-speed hijinks won't be coming to an end any time soon. Enter the new Audi Hoonitron.

Rally fans will quickly recognize the new Audi Hoonitron as drawing inspiration from the legendary Audi Sport quattro S1, which stormed Pikes Peak in the '80s and helped to establish Audi as a force to be reckoned with in the world of motorsport.

The big, boxy aero of the original rally superstar has been smoothed out and exaggerated, while under the skin is a full carbon fiber chassis.

As for the powertrain, the Audi Hoonitron is equipped with two electric motors for all-wheel grip. Output numbers are still forthcoming, but the Hoonitron is characterized as offering "power galore."

Amazingly, the entire vehicle was conceived, developed, and built in just seven months.

"Audi gave me the opportunity to test it for a few days in Germany," Block said with the Hoonitron's debut. "I'm familiar with a wide variety of cars using internal combustion engines and transmissions, but there were a lot of new things for me to learn here. Spinning into a donut at 150 km/h directly from standstill - just using my right foot - is an all-new experience for me."

The Hoonitron will make its tire-shredding debut in the upcoming Elektrikhana video, which is framed as an evolution of the Gymkhana viral video series, and should help to continue Block's addiction to long, smokey drifts. Stay tuned for that.

Meanwhile, Block's all-carbon, all-wheel drive, twin-turbo Ford Mustang, more commonly known as the Hoonicorn, has resumed its reign of destruction with Block's daughter, Lia, at the helm. Check out our previous coverage to see what we're on about.
