All the details, plus plenty of action.
Back in November, we took a look at pro Formula Drift driver Ryan Tuerck's Mk.V A90 Toyota Supra, a fully built one-off racing machine rocking a high-revving V10 with enough sonic awesomeness to melt your earholes. Now, we're revisiting Tuerck's F1-powered Toyota Supra to see what makes it tick in the following video.
Recently posted by famed automotive photographer and car personality Larry Chen, the video is pretty long, clocking in at a little over 53 minutes. However, for those fans that can't get enough of this insane Mk.V Toyota Supra, it's definitely worth it.
The video opens with footage of Tuerck's F1-powered Toyota Supra ripping it up at the Willow Springs racetrack in Southern California, belting out the high-strung soundtrack and dancing across the blacktop while demonstrating both grip driving and a little drifting. Afterwards, Chen pays a visit to Tuerck's shop, diving into the process behind documenting the build, and later, the details of what makes the Formula Toyota Supra so awesome.
First up on the technical details is the obvious go-to, namely the engine. Making all that incredible noise is a naturally aspirated Series 1 4.0-liter Judd GV4 V10. Typically found in racing applications like Le Mans Prototypes and late-model Formula 1 cars, this V10 can spin to 11,000 rpm and chucks out roughly 750 horsepower.
Compared to Tuerck's previous insane-o build, the GT4586, a Toyota 86 with a 4.5L Ferrari 458 V8 under the hood, the Formula Toyota Supra is wildly different. As Tuerck admits, the build quality is "lightyears" ahead in the Supra, but the nature of the Judd V10 engine makes a huge difference as well, with incredibly high tolerances, extensive upkeep, and a twitchy, nervous disposition.
Of course, beyond the engine, there's still an incredible amount to cover with this build, like the suspension, the brakes, the wheels, the all-carbon body… the list goes on and on. Naturally, the video tosses in plenty of action shots as well, keeping it spicy with a full frontal aural assault.
