Turbo powertrain does double time!
What happens when you flip your drift car? If you're Ashley Robinson, you rebuild - with two engines! No doubt, Robinson's custom twin-engine Nissan 350Z is quite the head-turner, and for good reason. Granted, it's got 1,000 horsepower, but there's more to this thing than just an impressive dyno sheet - the build is all about innovation, creativity, and an individual passion to create something uniquely awesome.
Ashley's journey began with an $800 auction find. After drifting the car and eventually flipping it in an accident, he decided to go bigger and better, equipping the 350Z with not one, but two turbocharged Honda K24 engines - one in front, and one in the rear. Each engine delivers 500 horsepower, with plans to upgrade to forged internals and push for 700 to 800 horsepower per engine in the near future.
Although the twin-engine setup presented unique challenges, Robinson remained undeterred. At first glance, some might think that dual engines would require some kind of intricate synchronization to work together. However, with identical transmissions and gear ratios, both engines operate seamlessly. To this end, Robinson turned to K-Tuned for a billet bracket that enables both transmissions to be shifted simultaneously.
"When you shift one, you're shifting both, and if you miss one gear, you miss two gears," Robinson explains with a smile.
The result? A 1,000-horsepower all-wheel-drive monster, primed for both street and track.
But performance isn't the only focus here. Robinson also gave the Nissan 350Z an artistic twist with a half-exo rear end, exposing the hard points underneath and lending the car a raw, industrial aesthetic, all while maintaining the classic Z silhouette. Initially, the rear space was used for cargo, but eventually, it became the perfect spot for a second turbocharged Honda K24 motor. This fusion of form and function transforms the build into a rolling piece of automotive art.
