Subaru Teases Electrified STI Concept For Tokyo Auto Salon

Three additional performance models in tow.

Subaru has teased the new STI E-RA Concept vehicle, a fresh electrified performance model signaling the Six Star brand's move towards battery-assisted performance. The Subaru STI E-RA Concept is set to debut next month at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon, where Subaru will also introduce several other STI performance models.

Let's start with the STI E-RA Concept. Subaru declined to provide much by way of details, but did give us a single teaser image featuring the front-end of something low, wide, and highly aggressive. C-shaped lighting signatures are pushed to edges of the fascia, while louvers appear to run up the hood. Pink STI detailing adds a dash of color. The concept is said to provide "experience" in new motorsport technologies moving towards "a carbon neutral era." Meanwhile, the name is a nod to WRX RA models of the past (RA for "Record Attempt"), which were traditionally more-hardcore model variants intended for racing.

In addition to the electrified STI STI E-RA Concept, Subaru will also display the new WRX S4 STI Performance Concept, which is equipped with custom STI pieces like a cherry red under spoiler, carbon fiber rear spoiler, and performance muffler. The styling is undoubtedly a preview of the upcoming next-gen Subaru WRX STI.

Rounding out Subaru's booth will be the Levorg STI Performance Concept, which also gets a variety of STI bits, but applied to a not-for-the-U.S.-wagon body style (this is why we cry), as well as an STI'd Subaru BRZ, and finally, the championship-winning Subaru BRZ GT300 race car from the Japanese Super GT series.

Expect more details when the Tokyo Auto Salon kicks off January 14.
