Poised to take the tarmac at Goodwood tomorrow.
Subaru Motorsports USA has officially lifted the veil on the 2024 Subaru WRX Project Midnight, framed as a successor to the Airslayer featured in Travis Pastrana's Gymkhana 2020 and promising to be the group's fastest and quickest WRX ever. Project Midnight will take to the tarmac tomorrow at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed in England, where it will attack the hill in the hands of rallycross champion Scott Speed. Specs include 670 horsepower and a curb weight under 2,500 pounds.
With a laser-like focus on paved surface performance, Subaru WRX Project Midnight follows in the footsteps of the Airslayer, a high-powered hoon machine designed for shredding rubber in exchange for YouTube views. By contrast, Project Midnight is a honed instrument of pure tarmac speed.
Speaking of which, Project Midnight features Subaru's famous turbocharged 2.0L flat-four engine, pumping out a maximum of 670 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque. Max engine speed is set at an ear-piercing 9,500 rpm, ensuring that anyone on the sidelines at Goodwood will know it's coming from the other side of the hill. Subaru also states that Project Midnight is equipped with advanced tarmac suspension geometry and aero tweaks to complement the muscle under the hood scoop.
Critically, Project Midnight underwent an extensive lightweighting program with a carbon fiber body and stripped-down chassis, shedding the heft to tip the scales at 2,469 pounds, 300 pounds less than the Airslayer and 1,000 pounds less than the civvy-spec WRX.
Behind the wheel will be Scott Speed, former F1 driver and rallycross champion, who praised Project Midnight as "an absolute beast" with "a very unique feel and incredible grip."
Stay tuned, as it's quite possible this flame-spitting monster is on its way to set some records, and remember - Tuner Fan is Modified For More!
