Toyota Supra Sales Fell 46 Percent In 2023

Sales for the A90 Toyota Supra fell off a cliff during the 2023 calendar year, with official figures indicating a 46-percent decline in the U.S. compared to 2022.

Toyota reportedly sold just 2,652 Supras last year, down from 4,952 units the year prior. The decrease occurred despite the introduction of a six-speed manual transmission in conjunction with the 2023 model year, an option which enthusiasts had called for since the fifth-generation A90 Toyota Supra launched in 2019.

Looking at Toyota's broader sales performance, the Japanese automaker actually increased U.S. sales by 6.6 percent to 2,248,477 units total. Sales for the GR86 were down 7.7 percent to 11,078 units, while sales for the Corolla were up 4.6 percent to 232,370 units. Sadly, even the Mirai, Toyota's hydrogen-powered, niche-interest eco-box, outsold the Toyota Supra at 2,737 units in 2023.

Looking ahead, Toyota is expected to introduce a high-performance GRMN variant for the A90 Supra in conjunction with the 2025 model year. This new variant will likely feature enhanced styling, sharper suspension tuning, and increased power.

Although it's a bummer that Toyota's hydrogen-powered commuter outsold its flagship sports car, here's to hoping the potential debut of the GRMN Supra and a decline in dealer "market adjustments" will help to drum up a little more interest in this potent little fun-machine.
