VW Golf GTI BBS Concept Keeps It Fresh And Clean

Channeling classic tuner hatch goodness.

VW recently pulled the sheets on the new Volkswagen Golf GTI BBS concept. Based on the current eighth-generation GTI, the BBS concept is simple and clean, paying homage to the classic tuner hot-hatch builds of the past.

Custom VW builder and enthusiast Jamie Orr contributed to the project.

"We wanted to maintain the soul of the Mk8, so we went with more traditional modifications," Orr said. "But we left the interior, body, and powertrain exactly as it came from the factory."

Highlights include a set of gorgeous BBS Super RS wheels, sized at 19 inches in diameter and 9 inches in width. The new rollers are wrapped in Delinte D7 rubber, sized at 235/35R19.

To achieve the proper stance, the Volkswagen Golf GTI BBS concept was lowered using H&R coilovers.

"The rear fitment is stock, but I redesigned the fronts a little because I wanted to add camber adjustment, so it's more of a custom mix of H&R components," Orr said.

The bow on top is a custom red-and-black livery that highlights the GTI's factory lines.

As for the engine spec, the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine was left unmodified, save for a Borla exhaust system to give it the proper tone. Output is rated at 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, all of which is directed to the front axle through a six-speed manual transmission.
